Governor Fernandez Barasa, first lady Prof. Janet and Key leaders during the county prayer dayThe first annual prayer day of Kakamega County was held on 3rd July 2026 at the Bukhungu Stadium in kakamega county in Partnership of the County Government of Kakamega led by the H.E FCPA Governor Fernandez Barasa and religious leaders from different denominations.
The event was attended by the First Lady of Kakamega County, Prof. Janet Kassilly Barasa and Key leaders from the county Government including Speaker of the Kakamega County Assembly Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, Deputy Speaker of the County Assembly Hon. Benard Shitiabayi, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Bonface Okoth. Members of Parliament (MPs) Representing different constituencies, the County Executive Committee Members, Bishop John Odinga , Reverend Nathan Lanya, heads of departments from the Kakamega County Government among hundreds of residents.
The theme Healing and prosperity of Kakamega County and Kenya was highlighted with a reference from the Bible, which focuses on humility, prayer and devine healing for the land, eleborating on Spiritual Healing, Forgiveness, Leadership, Integrity, Economic and social Prosperity.
While addressing the Congregation During the county prayers the Governor stated on key factors such as Servant leadership that is measured by transparency and compassion, faith over division and establishment of an official county chaplaincy, that would work closely with faith groups in the county. In addition, the religious leaders jointly called for an end to political hostility and ethnic division across the county as they resolved to closely support county development projects.
H.E FCPA Governor Fernandez Barasa addressing the Congregation During the county prayersRather than a closed-door government meeting that was in the past years, the county designed the event to bring citizens and leadership together to align on development priorities with a direct interdenominational engagement, free open-gate community engagement and a civic alignment on the county priorities.
However, the county leadership committed to launch a county chaplainicy, upgrade faith based schools, adapt servent leadership, forster political tolerance and enforce strict laws on bribery and corruption in Kakamega County.
