The principal secretary for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Susan Mang’eni, handed over Ksh 22.2 million Uwezo Fund support to 101 groups in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, where Ksh 7 million will benefit Malava residents . She also distributed 10 pieces of technical equipment—including sewing machines and hair clippers among other pieces of equipment.

Speaking at Malava Primary School on 4th September 2026, Mang’eni urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the funds and equipment, warning them against selling the items or simply keeping them idle at home; she cautioned that any group found storing the machinery without using it for work would have the equipment repossessed.
She further noted that while only 266 groups in Malava Constituency had benefited over the past decade, the number has risen to 353 under the leadership of area MP David Ndakwa, with 87 new groups added recently. She challenged MP Ndakwa to increase that figure further, aiming for 1,000 groups by the end of this year. Additionally, she praised President William Ruto for appointing numerous ministers from the Western region, remarking that Western people used to hear about ministers on radio and television, but under the broad-based government they can now see them frequently bringing development to the grassroots levels.

Furthermore, she encouraged Malava residents to continue forming groups, noting that even a group of five people is sufficient. “I want you—even within your families—to organize yourselves into groups of five; if you do, we will bring you funds to help you build yourselves,” Mang’eni added.
However, she challenged the opposition regarding the affordable housing agenda. ” We have some people who claim that the Luhya people live with chickens in their houses and ask how they could possibly live in high-rise apartments. I want to clarify that in Luhyaland, we do not sleep in the same house as chickens and cows by choice; it is simply a result of our low economic status. We must embrace modernity, and that is why President Ruto introduced this affordable housing initiative to address the challenge of limited land.” PS Mang’eni explained.
She also urged the youth to become job creators after completing their education and encouraged residents to be forward-thinking and have progressive ideas, asking the gatherings to support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
The event was organized by the area MP, David Ndakwa, who took the opportunity to affirm the locals that politics is a matter of intellect rather than mere noise-making; he also advised group members to use their funds wisely for their prosperity in business .
The event was attended by the principal secretary for Higher Education, Beatrice Inyangala, KRA Board Member Leonard Shimaka and other leaders who also urged locals who received funds and machinery in groups to utilize them effectively for the benefit of their groups and the community, while also being encouraged to continue supporting President William Ruto’s government and his re-election in 2027.
Zubeda Wesonga from the Indulusia women’s group and Kennedy Litali from the Butali traders’ group were among the members of local groups who benefited and expressed their delight at receiving the group funds and urged other residents to form and join local groups so that they could also benefit.
