Harambee team during a training camp
Harambee Stars players have reportedly declined to train ahead of Saturday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Eritrea at Nyayo National Stadium, citing unresolved welfare and logistical concerns.
The players, who reported to camp on Wednesday, are said to have reached the decision following a meeting among themselves. They are seeking an opportunity to meet either President William Ruto or officials from the Ministry of Sports to address their concerns.
Among the issues raised is accommodation, with the players reportedly claiming that they have been housed in hotels they consider below the standards expected of the national team during both home and away assignments.
The players have also expressed concerns over flight arrangements, alleging that they have often been booked on cheaper routes and classes involving lengthy layovers despite the availability of more direct and convenient options.
Another major issue raised is the payment of outstanding allowances. The players are reportedly demanding that all pending payments be settled before they resume training.
The development comes just days before Kenya is scheduled to face Eritrea in their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.
The standoff could put pressure on football and government officials to resolve the players’ concerns ahead of the crucial fixture.
Harambee Stars are expected to continue preparations once an agreement is reached between the players and the relevant authorities
