USA Surgery Specialists having a chit chat with Governor Fernandes Barasa
The Kakamega County Government, in collaboration with skilled specialists in chronic diseases of surgical operations from the operational international organization of the USA, has served 150 patients with free surgery.
According to Governor Barasa, 30 surgery specialists worked hand in hand with the 106 local professional county doctors for a successful surgery delivery with 20 more scheduled surgeries ahead.
Barasa further said that not only Kakamega residents have benefited from the free surgery but also residents from neighboring counties, aiming to give back to the society.
Speaking during a visit at Kakamega General Hospital with the surgery specialists on 30th July 2026, Barasa praised USA specialists under Dr. Ian Otinga and the Kakamega County healthcare professionals alongside Superintendent Dr. Christian Lamba, who provided the free surgery operations from the last Saturday an outreach was to benefit humble background patients to access the surgeries without any burden of prohibitive medical costs.

According to Dr. Ian Otinga, they operated on head and neck surgeries with different health issues, including prostate surgeries, thyroids, plastic surgeries and other services. “We are here to give back to society with these life-changing surgeries and we encourage all other patients who are at home to go to government hospitals to get treatment”. Dr. Ian Otinga advised.
On the other hand, Mark Silikhani, a beneficiary, said that he first received the surgery operation information on social media before attending to it in Kakamega General Hospital, where he was operated on awesomely on his head, and he was discharged yesterday, praising the work of the surgery specialist for their work well done.” These doctors have done their best to attend to us professionally. For my case, my head surgery was done successfully and I have now been discharged ” Mark Silikhani said.
