Kakamega Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa and his Bungoma counterpart Kenneth Lusaka on Tuesday 14th July, 2026 attended a prayer day and a fundraiser function at St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys High School in Isukha South, Shinyalu Constituency.
During the event, also attended by the area MP, Fred Ikana among other guests, leaders condemned the rising cases of goonism in the country. The two governors, Barasa and Lusaka, appealed to other politicians to desist from hiring goons to cause havoc in political gatherings but instead create empowerment opportunities for the youth.
They also raised an alarm to all police apparatus to remain vigilant to curb goonism.
“Let us not prepare our country for anarchy we don’t want to see our State in a situation we saw in 2007, we only have one country,” Lusaka said.
The same message was echoed by the area MP, Fred Ikana, who further urged students to dissociate themselves from leaders who might want to influence them into goonism for their own selfish interests.
Governor Lusaka presented KSh 1 million on behalf of President William Ruto during the fundraiser, contribution meant to support vulnerable students.
On his part, Governor Barasa promised to complete all projects initiated by the previous administration, stating that Khayega Market will be upgraded at a cost of KSh 100 million. Barasa explained that in the last financial year under his leadership, the county disbursed KSh 150 million, of which KSh 30 million went to trainees in County Polytechnics and KSh 1.5 million was disbursed to St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys.
The leaders present used the platform to encourage students to maintain discipline, work hard and stay focused on their academic goals for a brighter future.
“Students your future is determined by the choices you make today. Stay focused, respect your teachers, protect your school and work hard to achieve your dreams,” urged Lusaka.

They also reaffirmed Kenyan Kwanza’s commitment in empowering young people through education and finance among other development programmes urging residents to support President Ruto’s re-election in 2027.The event was presided over by Rev. Jacob Wafula of the Catholic Church.
