Dr. John Khaminwa at 90: Celebrating a Great Legal Mind

Veteran Kenyan lawyer and Senior Counsel Dr. John Khaminwa has celebrated 90 years of his career and life, in which he has dedicated himself to the practice of law, justice and the defence of human rights.

Khaminwa was born in Masiyenze, Kakamega County on 10th September 1936; his values in life began from his parents and teachers. In later years he studied law, and was awarded an LL.The University of London has awarded B. and an LL.M is a graduate of NYU’s International Law program.

For the last 30 years, Dr. Khaminwa has been a strong pillar in the Kenyan law and constitution in general. He has been representing individuals and groups in major cases concerning democracy and the rule of law, constitutionalism and human rights. His name is associated with the defence of the democratic space and the fundamental freedoms.

Khaminwa is today still a 90 year old old man, but is still an influential man in the legal profession of Kenya. He has been a giant in the profession, and a source of knowledge and inspiration to generations of lawyers and Kenyans.

To mark the occasion, Khaminwa not only talked about his career in law but also his parents, teachers, family and others who had impacted his life. He expressed his gratitude to God for the gift of good health and at the age of 90.

Dr. John Khaminwa’s 90 years are thus not only a personal achievement, but also a milestone in his work. These are a reflection of his long service and distinguished career in the law and his lifelong commitment to upholding justice, constitutionalism and values he holds.

Although his life story was celebrated in Kenya, it is a story of wisdom, courage, and perseverance as he fought for justice that will continue to inspire future generations to come.
